چکیده

The article describes a colour based recognition system with three novel features. Firstly, the proposed system can operate in environments where spectral characteristics of illumination change in both space and time. Secondly, benefits in terms of speed and quality of output are gained by focusing processing to areas of salient colour. Finally, an automatic model acquisition procedure allows rapid creation of the model database.

Illumination invariant interest point detection for vision based recognition tasks

Vision based recognition systems learn the appearance of given objects using images. These objects can be recognised and localised in other images after camera motion and illumination changes. The goal of this work is to improve the ability of such systems to recognise objects after illumination changes. Recognition systems usually reduce the amount of image data used for recognition by detecti...

Illuminant and device invariant colour using histogram equalisation

Colour can potentially provide useful information for a variety of computer vision tasks such as image segmentation, image retrieval, object recognition and tracking. However, for it to be helpful in practice, colour must relate directly to the intrinsic properties of the imaged objects and be independent of imaging conditions such as scene illumination and the imaging device. To this end many ...

Object Recognition Using Colour, Shape and Affine Invariant Ratios

This paper describes a spectral-spatial model (for colour object recognition) which exploits the shape, colour and position of regions on the surface of a rigid object in describing it. Given a model and test image (with colour constancy pre-processing) suitably segmented into colour regions, model and test regions with similar shape and colour are identified. If at least three model regions ha...

Non-iterative Comprehensive Normalisation

The light reflected from an object depends not only on object colours but also on lighting geometry and illuminant colour. As a consequence the raw colour recorded by a camera is not a reliable cue for object based tasks such as recognition and tracking. One solution to this problem is to find functions of image colours that cancel out dependencies due to illumination. While many invariant func...

Finding near optimum colour classifiers: genetic algorithm-assisted fuzzy colour contrast fusion using variable colour depth

This thesis presents a complete self-calibrating illumination intensity-invariant colour classification system. We extend a novel fuzzy colour processing technique called Fuzzy Colour Contrast Fusion (FCCF) by combining it with a Heuristicassisted Genetic Algorithm (HAGA) for automatic fine-tuning of colour descriptors. Furthermore, we have improved FCCF’s efficiency by processing colour channe...
